Narrative
In the will of John Warner (father of Andrew Warner) made a few months after purchasing lad at Hatfield Broad Oak, he calls himself a "Yeoman," that is, one who owns and works his own lad as distinguised from the tenant farmer on the one hand and the wealthy landlord on the other. This land usually consisted of several detached pieces; one for a homestead, another for pasture and others for the cultivation of crops. He evidently belonged to the class of small freeholders, or what is now termed the middle-class. (Warner, p 5)
